Roadkill Rhapsody 
If you can get past the various natural reactions to the spectacle of men demanding a beautiful island all for themselves – very impressive. Similarly – if you haven’t read it, you might find interesting the detailed and often very beautiful description of the island and its monasteries in Robert Byron’s ‘The Station’. It’s juvenilia (Etonians abroad) by comparison with his magnificent ‘Road to Oxiana’, but still worth reading.
